Racquet Club Tennis Leagues!

Each season we offer a variety of leagues to our membership.  During the leagues all participants play set matches against one another.  Typically there are at least 8 teams or players in a given singles, doubles, or round robin doubles league.  A weekly match is set up, and our members play the match and report their scores.  A champion of each league is determined at the end of each session.  Our fall, winter, and spring leagues take place on our indoor air-conditioned courts.  Our summer leagues take place outdoors on the rubico courts.

Other Events & Activities...
Not only are our members inundated with fabulous tennis during the USTA sanctioned events, the ITA Regional Championships, the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup and the USTA Girls’ 18 Super National Clay Court Championships, but they are also inundated with the many wonderful tennis events at The Racquet Club of Memphis.

Holiday Round Robins
What better way to start off a holiday than to spend time with fellow players and enjoy some great tennis?  Our holiday mixed round robins highlight every year.  From 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on each of these days we come together to play mixed doubles, enjoy drinks and snacks, spend time with each other, and take home some great prizes.  Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, New Year's Eve

Ladies’ Spring Classic
The Ladies’ Spring Classic is a wonderful annual event just for the girls!  It is a city-wide doubles tournament held every April, consisting of a waterfall draw.  The ladies break for a fabulous buffet lunch at mid-day, and then continue their full day of fabulous tennis.

Indoor Club Championships
Every January we close out the season before the Kroger St. Jude and Cellular South Cup with a tournament of our own.  During the Indoor Club Championships members compete against fellow members to earn the title of Indoor Champion.  There are some great tennis matches, and the competitors enjoy snacks and drinks off the court.

Member - Guest Tournament
One of the highlights of the year, the Member - Guest tournament, which is held every July, is a great opportunity to bring in friends outside of the Club to enjoy a great weekend of tennis and one of the best parties of the year.  Members and guests experience some great competitive tennis, wonderful snacks and drinks and a fabulous dinner on Saturday evening.

Outdoor Club Championships
Our annual Outdoor Club Championships are held every September.  Members enjoy some great tennis on the clay courts and take advantage of this great opportunity to socialize with fellow members.  There are some great tennis matches and they enjoy snacks and drinks off the court.

Club Melting Pot Championships
A fun new event for The Racquet Club is the Club Melting Pot Championships, which is very similar to the Ladies Spring Classic.  The event runs three days, with Ladies Doubles the first day, Men’s Doubles the second day and Mixed Doubles on the final day.  Every day there is a waterfall tournament for each Open group filled with teams from different clubs around the city.  Every day a fabulous buffet lunch is served, and at the end of the tournament, a club champion is crowned.

Friday Night Mixed Doubles
From September through May, once a month we offer a special Friday night when the members can come and socialize with one another and play some great tennis in a mixed doubles, change partner, round robin format.  Each month a different Tennis Pro organizes the function and joins the members.

Play with the Pros
One of our membership’s favorite events, Play with the Pros, is similar to Friday Night Mixed Doubles, but all of our Tennis Professionals join in the fun.  The participating members get the chance to play with or against the Tennis Professionals at The Racquet Club.

Dunavant Cup
This weekly event for upper level men takes place for 10 weeks from September to November on the clay courts.  A draft is held a week before the event and everyone who signs up is placed on a team.  Each week matches take place in a Davis Cup format.  There is a wonderful party at the end hosted by the championship team.

Kosten Cup
Very similar to the Dunavant Cup, this weekly event for upper level men and women takes place for six weeks from July to September on the clay courts.  A draft is held a week before the event and everyone who signs up is placed on a team.  Then each week a men’s, women’s and mixed doubles match take place with different teams competing against each other each week.  Just like the Dunavant Cup, the championship team hosts a dinner at the end for all participants.

Ladies’ League Clinic
As a special treat to all of the ladies who play in our tennis leagues, we host a free tennis clinic and luncheon each January.  The ladies get to enjoy a tennis clinic with all the tennis professionals and then get to enjoy a great lunch together.

Adult Development
Our Men’s and Women’s Adult Development Clinics involve high-level drills on footwork, stroke production and conditioning, in addition to singles and doubles strategy.  There is match play with on-court strategy instruction.  A different  aspect of the tennis game is stressed each week.

Ladies’ Florida Camp
To give all of our ladies a break during the Fall, Coach Phil Chamberlain takes a group down to Florida to enjoy a weekend filled with great tennis and a ton of fun.  Our ladies get to enjoy a four day camp, competitive matches, and the beach!

Special Functions
The Racquet Club tennis courts are available every day and weekend not only for members to enjoy, but also for special functions brought in from outside the club.  Past and current events that we have hosted include the Fed Ex Employee Appreciation Tournament, UT Doctors, Hank Aaron tournament, Brad Perkins Memorial Tournament and The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Memphis Tournament.  These are member-sponsored events that take tennis and incorporate it with various businesses, charities, fundraisers, etc.  Whatever it is, casual or sophisticated, we can make the event work wonderfully.

Coach Rob’s Summer Tennis Clinics
Every summer Coach Rob Cadwallader offers young children the opportunity to learn to love the game of tennis.  From age 4 to age 14, children of all ages who are just beginning to play or who have never picked up a racquet can step into one of Coach Rob’s clinics and learn the basics that will form the foundation of their games, as well as have a great time!

Junior Clinics & Traveling
Our juniors have many opportunities at The Racquet Club as well as away from the Club.  Our Tennis Professionals have committed to traveling to various tournaments with the juniors as well as providing workshops and camps here that help them improve their games and prepare for upcoming tournaments such as State Qualifying, State Closed, Southerns, Nationals, Super Circuits, etc.  The clinics, which prepare the juniors for the events scheduled throughout the summer, consist of high-level drill work and focused match play.

Spring Break Tennis Camp
Though many are traveling, for all of our juniors that choose to stay in town over Spring Break, our Tennis Professionals offer a Tennis Camp for the entire week.  The Camp consists of fun games, high level drills, a mini-tournament, match play work and much more.

Phil Chamberlain Tennis Camp
The Phil Chamberlain Tennis Camp is an extremely successful camp for players who have had some continual form of supervised instruction, such as private lessons or participation in a junior program.  It is a comprehensive camp running 8:30 am - 1:00 pm that includes drills, personal instruction, match play analysis, video replay of matches, singles and doubles strategy, conditioning, tournament preparation and mental toughness.
