Tennis Leagues

Each season we offer a variety of leagues to our membership. During the leagues all participants play set matches against one another. Typically there are at least 8 teams or players in a given singles, doubles, or round robin doubles league. A weekly match is set up, and members play the match and report their scores. A champion of each league is determined at the end of each session. Our fall, winter, and spring leagues take place on our indoor air-conditioned courts. Our summer leagues take place outdoors on the rubico courts.

Contract Court Time
A weekly set match is a common thing for many people involved in the sport of tennis. As a courtesy to our members we contract a set of time on a given indoor air-conditioned court for a 13-week period (one period in the fall and one period in the spring). The only cost involved is the cost of the court time. As a bonus, Contracts are charged $2.00/hour less than regular walk-up courts! Having a Contract Court makes it much easier for tennis players to keep up their regular games without having to worry about calling each week to book their favorite courts.

USA League & Team Tennis
In 2005 alone The Racquet Club had 19 teams participating in USA League Tennis. Not only are there matches, but during the USA League Season, the clinics here at our Club are organized around the teams in order to ensure every team receives the best practice sessions possible. The Racquet Club also consistently has teams participating in Mixed and Doubles Combo leagues. The atmosphere at The Club during the USA League Tennis and USA Team Tennis Season truly is full of the competitive spirit of so many of our teams!

Dunavant Cup
This weekly event for upper level men takes place for 10 weeks from September to November on the clay courts. A draft is held a week before the event and everyone who signs up is placed on a team. Each week matches take place in a Davis Cup format. There is a wonderful party at the end hosted by the championship team.

Corky's Cup
This weekly showcase event for the best players in Memphis takes place for 8 weeks from October to November on the clay courts. A draft is held a week before the event and everyone is placed on a team. Each week two teams from each team play against two teams from another team Every participant receives a t-shirt, every week Corky's BBQ is served, and at the end of the event there is a party at Brookhaven Pub for all participants!

Kosten Cup
This weekly event for upper level men and women takes place for six weeks from July to September on the clay courts. A draft is held a week before the event and everyone who signs up is placed on a team. Then each week a men’s, women’s and mixed doubles match take place with different teams competing against each other each week. Just like the Dunavant Cup, the championship team hosts a dinner at the end for all participants.

Holiday Round Robins
What better way to start off a holiday than to spend time with fellow players and enjoy some great tennis?! Our holiday mixed round robins highlight every year. From 9:00 am until 12:00 noon on each of these days we come together to play mixed doubles, enjoy drinks and snacks, spend time with each other, and take home some great prizes. Holiday Round Robins are held on Memorial Day, 4th of July, and Labor Day.

Ladies’ Florida Camp
To give all of our ladies a break during the Fall, Coach Phil Chamberlain takes a group down to Florida to enjoy a weekend filled with great tennis and a ton of fun. Our ladies get to enjoy a four day camp, competitive matches, and the beach!

Ladies Inner-Club Challenge
On Sunday afternoons in December & January the Racquet Club will host the annual Ladies' Inner-Club Team Tennis Event. Four teams will be allowed to participate that consist of ladies at all levels. Each week your team will play against one of the other teams in a series of two doubles matches - a 6.5 match and a 7.5 match. A draft will be held before the event that will place all the interested ladies on different teams. This is a great chance for you to play on the same team with friends from the Club that aren't the same level you are!

Indoor Club Championships
Every January we close out the season before the Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup with the Indoor Club Championships.  During this member-only tournament, members compete against fellow members to earn the title of Indoor Champion.  There are some great tennis matches, and the competitors enjoy snacks and drinks off the court as well as our annual Champion's Potluck on the Friday night of the event.

Outdoor Club Championships
Our annual Outdoor Club Championships are held every September.  Members enjoy some great tennis on the clay courts and take advantage of this great opportunity to socialize with fellow members.  There are some great tennis matches and they enjoy snacks and drinks off the court.

Mid-South Melting Pot Championships
The Mid-South Melting Pot Championships, which is very similar to the Ladies Spring Classic, runs three days, with Ladies Doubles the first day, Men’s Doubles the second day and Mixed Doubles on the final day.  Every day there is a waterfall tournament for each Open group filled with teams from different clubs around the city.  We provide lunch every day, and eight teams walk away with prizes at the end of each day!  This event is held over Halloween weekend, and includes the best Halloween Tennis Costume contest in town!
USTA Southern Open Indoor
The USTA Southern Open Indoor is the pre-qualifying event for the ATP Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the WTA Cellular South Cup.  It is held every December at The Racquet Club of Memphis.  Every year brings the top adult players from all over the South and the nation to play in this open tournament for men and women.  The respective winners of the singles events receive wildcards into the Qualifying of the Pro events.

Junior Events!

Junior Development
Junior Development, which has been in existence for 28 years, is the program begun at The Racquet Club to develop the games of juniors of all ages and ability levels.  Each year nearly 200 juniors participate in the program, from five year olds who are just learning to play, to seniors in high school who are preparing for the Nationals.  Juniors are separated according to their ability levels and ages.  Maintaining a one-to-four ratio, the Tennis Professionals and the Junior Development staff strive to give the juniors the best instruction, drills and practice available.

Racquet Club Junior Indoor Championships
This fun members-only event held in October allows all of the juniors at The Racquet Club of Memphis to compete in their age groups as they vie for the title of Club Champion.

Memphis Junior Indoor Circuit Championships
The Racquet Club is proud to offer a series of sanctioned Tournaments to all age groups from all over the Mid-South.  Play will be held on Friday and Saturday evenings and Sunday mornings.  The top 24 boys and 24 girls in each age group will be accepted into the event.  There is a modified consolation draw and all matches will be two sets with a tiebreak for the third set.  With all the changes in the  USTA and STA ranking systems, this will be a fabulous & convenient new event to play to help the juniors to improve their Southern and state rankings.

Coach Rob’s Summer Clinics
Every summer Coach Rob Cadwallader offers young children the opportunity to learn to love the game of tennis.  From age 4 to age 14, children of all ages who are just beginning to play or who have never picked up a racquet can step into one of Coach Rob’s clinics and learn the basics that will form the foundation of their games, as well as have a great time!

USTA Girls’ 18 National Clay Court Championships
