TENNIS LOVE RETURNS TO MEMPHIS!
Look who's back in town! The Racquet Club is excited to host some of the
world's-greatest men and women tennis players in the 2007 Regions Morgan Keegan
Championships and The Cellular South Cup, Feb. 16th through 25th.
Andy Roddick, finished 2006 ranked #6 in the world, makes his 7th straight
appearance in Memphis. He finished the year ranked in the Top 10 for the fifth
straight time, and compiled an 18-2 record after hiring tennis legend Jimmy
Connors as his coach. Andy started 2007 with a win over Federer in an
exhibition match, and had an impressive Australian Open, reaching the
semi-finals.
#1 American James Blake compiled a career-best season with five ATP titles on
four continents in eight finals. He achieved his highest ranking ever at #5,
and started 2007 winning the Sydney International in Australia for
the second straight year.
#1 German and defending champion Tommy Haas also returns to the Morgan Keegan
Stadium. Haas finished 2006 in the Top 20 for the fourth time in the last six
years, and started 2007 playing great, reaching the semi-finals of the
Australian Open.
Andy Murray, and Americans, Robby Ginepri and Mardy Fish (coached by Memphis
favorite, Todd Martin) make the men's draw one of the best ever.
The Cellular South Cup is thrilled to present America's darling of tennis,
Venus Williams, the three-time Wimbledon champion and 2005 US Open
Champion. Venus is one of the most recognized athletes in the world. Last
year's singles champion Sofia Arvidsson and doubles champions Samantha Stosur
and Lisa Raymond (No. 1 doubles team in the world) return to defend their
titles, in a field with six other women ranked among the Top 50 in the world.
Once again, The Racquet Club is the place to be, Feb. 16th thru the 25th. So
load up the family, entertain your clients, and bring some friends - show some
tennis love and help contribute to the fight against childhood cancer. Call the
Ticket Office at 765-4401 and we'll find you the best seats in the house!

Dear Members:
The New Year has started with many exciting first quarter events. January 6,
The Racquet Club was center stage for St. Louis Church's magnificent 50th
Anniversary celebration. The Club's Catering Director, Kelly Luckett, is very
busy planning members' special celebrations, and is already booking December
holiday parties, so please book your events early. The newly renovated Club
looks better than ever!
I regret that the January Racqueteer didn't happen. The busy holidays and a few
unexpected glitches made the transition from paper to email more difficult than
expected. Worth doing well, though, I think the first issue looks great. The
monthly Racqueteer is also available online at the Club's web site,
www.rcofmemphis.com, and some paper copies are available at the Front Desk and
in the Membership Office.
The Regions Morgan Keegan Championships and the Cellular South Cup, February 16
- 25, has one of the best draws ever! During the Tournament, I have special
entertainment in the Pub and Executive Chef Glen Fisher has planned a special
Tournament menu. It is a perfect time to see world-class tennis, showcase your
Club, and have fun with your family and friends. Check the Food and Beverage
section for Tournament hours, noting food and beverage service daily (including
Monday) beginning at 11:00 a.m.
Reservations for the Pub and Dining Room, especially during Tournament
week, allow us to plan and serve you better. Please make reservations. Call
765.4430.
Please note that during the Tournament, the Club parking lot is available for
members Monday - Friday until 2:00 p.m.
Cars without specific Tournament parking passes, displayed in the window, are
towed off the lot at 3:00 p.m., and this is strictly enforced. Check the
RMK/CSC Tournament section regarding free shuttle service and for more
Tournament information.
Before the Tournament, a special night, with a lovely menu from the Chef, is
planned for you to celebrate Valentine's Day at the Club.
The details are in the Food and Beverage section.
And exciting news: on the already very popular Thursday evening Italian night,
we now feature "freshly-made" pasta, with classic sauces and served
tableside for you. Wednesday Family Night and Sunday Jazz Brunch are more
popular than ever, and the employees are ready to give you "Service Worth a
Return!"
I hope to see you at the Club. Until next month,
Respectfully,

Engin Tuncay,CCM,
CHA, FMP

St. Louis' 50th Anniversary Celebration
Wes Kraker, organizer of the event, wrote, "Mac (Winker), you and The Racquet
Club staff recognized how important this event (50th Anniversary Mass and
sit-down dinner for 2,300) was to us and pulled it off flawlessly."

E X P A N D your Club benefits with RECIPROCITY!
Sure. We have over 275 reciprocal clubs all over the world. St. James in Paris.
New York Athletic Club. Beverly Hills Country Club. Even the Western Australia
Club! But, here's a NEW reciprocal club a little closer to home! And it's sure
to please all of our "Big Orange" fans!
Knoxville Racquet Club (krctennis.com) rests on a 32 acre campus atop a
picturesque hill overlooking the magnificent Great Smoky Mountains. This
fantastic reciprocal club has grown to be the largest tennis, swim and fitness
facility with premier programs in East Tennessee. Next time you plan a trip to
the Knoxville area, call Debbie or Liz in Membership (765-4443) to arrange
for a "Letter of Introduction" to be sent. Remember, we need
only your name, member number, reciprocal club requested and travel dates.
We take care of the rest!
We are happy to e-mail or fax a complete list of our reciprocal clubs.
Keep these on hand when you are planning your next trip! ENJOY!
Do we have reciprocal clubs in Memphis? NOT EXACTLY. What we do have with the
other private clubs in town is "charging privileges." "Charging privileges"
allow our members in good standing the opportunity to go to another private
club in town with one of their members and charge back to The Racquet Club.
When you sign your ticket, make sure you write your RC member number and "The
Racquet Club of Memphis" on it. That charge ticket is forwarded to the
Club and the charges are included on your next Racquet Club statement.

The Racqueteer Lottery!
If you find your member number in The Racqueteer and call Debbie or Liz in
Membership before the end of the month in which it appears, they will let you
know what "PERFECT" gift is waiting for you.

Woman Aging Gracefully
Are you a WAG (Woman Aging Gracefully)? If so, don't
miss a spring luncheon series designed just for you.
Gould's Day Spa and Salon, Independent Bank, and McDonald-Murrmann Women's
Clinic are hosting 3 events at The Racquet Club of Memphis, all designed to
enrich your mind, body and soul. With plenty of door prizes and giveaways,
expert speakers address fitness, finance, fulfillment and fun!
On February 9th, stressing "You Don't Have to Look Like Aunt Pauline," Dr.
Susan Murrmann, herself a beautifully ageless physician at McDonald-Murrmann
Women's Clinic, will discuss "How to look and feel good at any age." Judy Oros,
Fitness Trainer at The Racquet Club, and Sara Carpenter, RN, BSN, at
McDonald-Murrmann Center for Skin, Laser and Healthy Aging will provide
giveaways, samples and live demonstrations.
The schedule continues with two more sessions offering the opportunity to
lunch, learn and network. In March, Susan Stephenson, President and Co-Chair of
Independent Bank, presents "Building Wealth: A Financial Toolkit," and in
April, Ellen Westbrook, editor of Southern Women
magazine, will share success stories called "Old Dog, New Tricks,"
demonstrating life skills for the new millennium.
Luncheons begin at 11:30 at The Racquet Club of Memphis, 5111
Sanderlin, Memphis TN 38117. Tickets are $10 for the first 100 women and $18
thereafter. Call (901)765-4400.
