Duende Ice Division Information & History:

Mac Winker, Sculptor

Mr. Winker has more than 20 years of rich experience in the hospitality industry. He holds a BA degree in Business from the Hotel and Restaurant School at Michigan State University, and, in 1982 obtained the distinction of Certified Club Manager (CCM).

In 1978 he was hired by Dunavant Enterprises, Inc., to be Chairman of the Board and General Manager of The Racquet Club of Memphis, a remarkable 10 million dollar facility, where the Kroger St. Jude tennis tournament is held each year.  Mr. Winker has guided The Racquet Club to be a financially successful, prestigious and growing operation.

A bit of the prestige comes from the unique and beautiful ice sculptures that highlight so many elegant parties at the Club.  Vases and baskets that look like Waterford crystal, perfect company logos, Santa/sleight/and reindeer, elegant swans, lovebirds on a heart, hissing angelfish, dramatic, double swordfish, a tiny, but stately seahorse, and a chinese dragon are part of his repertoire.

In December 1986, the chinese dragon was voted the best sculpture in the annual Memphis Ice Sculpture Competition.  in January 1987, Mr. Winker, in his first National Ice Sculpture Competition, placed in the top 12 in the nation, scoring 106 of a possible 120 points.
